Electrocardiogram (ECG)

A quick, painless test that records the electrical signals in your heart to detect arrhythmias and other conditions.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a non-invasive recording of the heart's electrical activity, captured across 12 leads simultaneously. It is the primary cardiac investigation — performed in under five minutes with immediate results and no radiation.

Book This Evaluation
Patient undergoing a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) test

An ECG captures the heart's electrical signals to instantly identify abnormal rhythms and other critical conditions.

What It Detects

  • Arrhythmias: atrial fibrillation, SVT, ventricular tachycardia
  • Acute coronary syndromes: STEMI and NSTEMI
  • Conduction abnormalities and bundle branch blocks
  • Ventricular hypertrophy
  • Pre-excitation syndromes (e.g. Wolff-Parkinson-White)
  • Prior myocardial infarction
  • Electrolyte disturbances

How It's Performed

Ten electrodes are placed on the chest, arms, and legs. Six chest (precordial) leads and six limb leads generate 12 distinct electrical views of the heart. The patient lies still for approximately 30 seconds. No preparation, no radiation, no discomfort.

Key Measurements

  • P wave — atrial electrical activity
  • PR interval — atrioventricular (AV) conduction time
  • QRS complex — ventricular depolarisation
  • ST segment — critical for detecting heart attacks
  • T wave — ventricular repolarisation
  • QT interval — total ventricular electrical duration

Who Should Get It

  • Patients with chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, or syncope
  • Those with cardiovascular risk factors
  • Pre-operative assessment before surgery
  • Baseline evaluation before starting certain medications
