Before medicine, Dr Peter Chang studied biological sciences and visual arts at the University of Chicago. The arts taught him to observe: the details a patient doesn't mention, the change that matters on a scan. It remains the foundation of how he practises.

A decade leading vascular medicine
Dr Chang completed his specialist training in cardiology at National University Hospital and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He went on to become Senior Consultant and to direct the Vascular Medicine Service and its accredited Diagnostic Vascular Laboratory. He performed vascular interventions, trained the next generation of specialists, and built a service around careful diagnosis.

Prevention is the practice
Most heart attacks and strokes come from atherosclerosis that developed quietly over years. Dr Chang looks for it early in the coronary, carotid and leg arteries, and treats risk before it becomes an event. He holds himself to the same advice he gives his patients.
